Atta laevigata (Smith, 1858) is an ant from the subfamily Myrmicinae, one of the largest leaf-cutting ant species. The species is widespread in the neotropical eco-zone: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Suriname and Venezuela. In human culture In Colombia this ant, popularly known as hormiga culona, is traditionally considered a gastronomic delicacy.
