Sphaerophoria scripta mm 8-11 wing span cm 1-1.5 Insect Hover Fly Flower Fly Diptera Brachycera Syrphidae.
Family: Syrphidae.
Common name: The Long Hoverfly.
Syn. Melithreptus dispar, Musca invisito, Musca molita, Musca scripta, Sphaerophoria dispar, Sphaerophoria invisito, Sphaerophoria molita, Sphaerophoria strigata.

Classic example of "Batesian mimicry", which is a harmless Hoverfly that mimics a wasp or a dangerous Cleridae beetle with bright colors similar to signal flavors or odors.
