Paraloid B72 Acrylic Resin Consolidating Hardener for Collecting Fossils Friable Minerals Works Artistic Restoration Wood Wall Paintings.

Paraloid B72 Copolymer is a crystalline synthetic acrylic resin which comes in the form of beads, flakes or solid transparent drops which must be dissolved in a glass container in a suitable solvent (e.g. nitro thinner, acetone etc.) in the percentage ranging from 5% to 10% depending on application needs.
Paraloid B72 can be applied in the liquid state by brushing, injection with a glass syringe, drop by drop or immersion, depending on the intended use. Once left to dry or penetrated into the materials, the Paraloid will solidify, giving it a certain consistency.
The solidification of Paraloid B72 occurs by evaporation of the solvent used to prepare the consolidant (for example nitro thinner).
The effectiveness of the treatment with Paraloid B72 is greater when it occurs by injection, drop by drop or immersion, as, in these cases, the penetration of the substance (e.g. into wood) is more intense, while when it is applied for impregnation the consolidant tends to remain on the surface, as in the case of fossils or other.
The treatment with Paraloid B72 reduces microporosity, making the object more compact, less brittle, reducing water absorption both on the surface and in depth. It does not alter the natural colors as the resin is transparent and resistant over time.
Among its advantages we point out its flexibility, the fact that it does not attract dust, does not produce plastic deformations and is very stable.
Composition and Chemical Properties: medium hardness copolymer based on ethyl methacrylate and methyl methacrylate (70/30). Melting point: 150°C soluble in esters (ethyl and amyl acetate), ketones, aromatic hydrocarbons (toluene), chlorinated hydrocarbons (trichloroethylene, etc.). Insoluble in aliphatic hydrocarbons (white spirit) and alcohols. Compatible with various vinyl and acrylic resins.
Warning: the product, as supplied by us, in the form of inert crystals, is harmless. But once dissolved it must be handled with extreme care, as it is dangerous for inhalation, ingestion and contact with the skin. Furthermore, prolonged exposure to the solvents contained in the product can be harmful to the liver, kidneys and heart.
