Common name: Eurasian Collared Dove or Turtledove.

The Collared Dove (Streptopelia decaocto Frivaldszky, 1838) is a bird of the Columbidae family, native to Asia, but which had a strong expansion in Europe in the 20th century.
The average size is 32 cm in length, and 180 grams in weight. Its color is grey-red or coffee milk, slightly darker on the back; the wings have dark brown tips and in flight the tail appears white with a black base. A narrow black collar stands out on the neck.
Slender in shape than the domestic pigeon (Columba livia), it is very similar to the wild dove (Streptopelia turtur). The sexes look similar, but the males are larger.
This species has diurnal habits, individuals are not very afraid of humans and spend most of their time perched in trees, often visiting gardens with other animals to look for food. They coexist well with other bird species such as sparrows and robins.
Seeds are their basic diet, but they also feed on fruits, herbs, insects and small invertebrates.
It can lay all year round. It builds a crude nest of branches on trees, but sometimes also on human structures. in which she lays 1-2 eggs
Two subspecies are known: Streptopelia decaocto decaocto (Frivaldszky, 1838) and Streptopelia decaocto xanthocycla (Newman, 1906).
Similar species: rock pigeon (Columba livia), wood pigeon (Columba palumbus), common dove (Streptopelia turtur).
