Purpuricenus kaehleri ​​(Linnaeus, 1758) is a beetle of the Cerambycidae family.
It is a beetle 10 to 22 mm long, characterized by red elytra with a black spot across the suture, of variable dimensions and sometimes absent; the rest of the body is black, with the thorax sometimes marked with red.
The life cycle is approximately two-three years: the larvae are xylophagous, and feed on numerous tree species in the Mediterranean area (including Quercus, Cydonia, Acer, Ulmus and also various fruit trees), while in Central Europe seem to be limited to oaks only; trees already weakened by the buprestid Coraebus florentinus are attacked more easily. The larvae dig tunnels in the wood, pupating inside once mature.
