The Great DyingThe mass extinction of the Permian-Triassic (P-T), said also the Permian extinction, known informally as the Great Dying, was a mass extinction that occurred about 251.4 million of years ago, acting as a boundary between the Permian and Triassic geological period, ie between the Primary Era (Paleozoic) and Era Secondary (Mesozoic). The PT was the most severe mass extinction event that has ever occurred on Earth, with the disappearance of 96% of marine species and 70% of terrestrial vertebrate species, was the only known mass extinction of insects. It is estimated that became extinct 57% of all households and 83% of all genres. Because so much biodiversity was lost, the recovery of life on Earth was a much longer process than other mass extinction events. This event has been described as the "mother of all mass extinctions".
