Variety of Quartz with inclusions of Crocidolite and Iron oxides.

The Tiger Iron is a stone with a streaked color ranging from grey, red and yellow.
This is a variety of the better known Tiger's Eye (a type of Quartz, see the same for sale on our site), and is therefore also called Iron Tiger's Eye. It is a special combination of stones that has been found in Western Australia and Brazil. The stone is made up of banded layers of Hematite, Red Jasper and Tiger's Eye. The "Tiger Iron" is therefore composed of Quartz (Tiger's Eye), with Iron replacing the mineral Crocidolite and inclusions of Hematite and Red Jasper, the latter also a member of the quartz family.
The name Tiger-Iron comes from the word Tiger (Tiger Eye) and from Iron due to the presence of Hematite.
