Adelocera murina cm 1-1.7Insect Coleopter Click Beetle Snapping Beetle Spring Beetle Skipjack Elater Elateridae.
Family: Elateridae

Syn. Agrypnus murinus o Agrypnus murina.

The Elateridae (Leach, 1815) are a family of cosmopolitan beetles characterized by having an unusual click mechanism: they produce a violent "click" that throws the insect into the air, an expedient used above all to avoid predation.
There are approximately 9,300 known species around the world.
The adults are typically nocturnal and phytophagous, rarely of economic importance. Their dimensions can vary from a few millimeters up to over 9 cm. The larvae are usually scavengers, but some species are pests of agricultural species, and others are predators of other insect larvae. Some species of elateridae are bioluminescent (both in larva and adult form). The larvae are thin, elongated, cylindrical, or slightly flattened, and harder relative to a darkswing larva to which they resemble.
