Busycon contrarium Big Size Extralarge mm 200 Seashell Gastropoda Snail Crown Conch, laevogyrous (left opening), only a piece, as in photos.
Family: Melongenidae or Busyconidae (busicon whelks).
Common name: Lightning Whelk.
Syn. Busycon (Sinistrofulgur) sinistrum, Busycon sinistrum, Busycon (Sinistrofulgur) aspinosum, Busycon perversum sinistrum.

Busycon contrarium is a fossil snail species of the busycon whelks in the family Buccinidae. There has been some confusion about the correct taxonomy of this species, which has been confused with the extant species Busycon (Sinistrofulgur) sinistrum Hollister, 1958, and Busycon (Sinistrofulgur) perversum (Linnaeus, 1758).
The correct name of this species, even if B. Contrarium is now widespread, is actually Sinistrofulgur sinistrum.
