Ctenocephalides felis mm 2 Insect Cat Flea Hematophagus Parasite Siphonapter Aphanipter Pulicid.

.
Family: Pulicidae (fleas).
Common name: Cat Flea.
Syn. Pulex felis.

Siphonaptera) or Aphaniptera, commonly known as fleas, are an order of wingless insects.
Fleas are external bloodsucking parasites: they feed on the blood of mammals and birds. In the past it was long thought that fleas evolved from diptera. It is thanks to their ancestry that the specimens of this order are found in the taxonomic subclass of the Pterygoths despite being devoid of wings. However, morphological and genetic elements indicate that fleas are descendants of mecopterans of the boreid family; as a result, they could be reclassified in the future as a suborder of the Mecoptera order, also in light of the discovery of Caurinus tlagu in 2013, a flea-like mecopter in appearance and ability to jump. Among the most common flea species we can mention Ctenocephalides felis (cat parasite), Ctenocephalides canis (dog parasite), Pulex irritans (human parasite), Nosopsyllus fasciatus and Xenopsylla cheopis (rat parasites).
Fleas are often confused with the various lice, also wingless insects and parasites of man and many other mammals and birds, belonging to the order of the Siphunculata or Anoplura.
Pulicidae feed on mammalian blood. Ctenocephalides felis felis is also known as the cat flea, and is an extremely important parasite of domestic cats and dogs. They prefer to feed on areas round the head and neck of a cat, rather than the ventral part of the body. The transmission of dog tapeworm is a result of this flea, as well. As for their effect on humans, they are also responsible for flea bite allergy dermatitis. Additionally, Pulicidae transmit Yersinia pestis, the bacteria responsible for plague.
