Micascist (or micaschist) is a metamorphic rock formed by regional metamorphism of medium grade. So between 500 - 700 ° C temperature and 3-10 bar pressure. They are mostly medium and coarse-grained rocks with schistose texture sometimes flat but more often wavy and irregular due to the presence of quartz. The color varies from silver gray to brown depending on the amount of biotite present.
The mica appear in all the areas that were affected by the lifting of orogenic and particularly in those where erosion has brought to light the deeper layers. An example of micascist is located in Val Sangone (Italy, Piemonte - Alpes Cozie).
