resin reproduction (scientific model) of the skull of Australopithecus afarensis said "Lucy".
In this model the reconstructed areas are in light brown finished.
Discovered by Donald Johanson in 1974 in Hadr (Ethiopia), Lucy has been considered the first human. This is now being challenged by discovery of Kenyanthropus described in 2001 by Leaky.
Althought the brain was relatively small, skeletal evidence indicates that "Lucy" walked upright, supporting the idea that bipedalism preceded the development of a large brain.
