The Proetus is an arthropod belonging to the extinct trilobites, who lived between the Ordovician and the Devonian (490-360 million years ago). Its fossils were found on all continents since it was widespread in the seas around the world, this fact is probably because its planktonic larvae live a life and then were exposed to continuous movements. This animal gives its name to an order of trilobites, the Proetida, among which were the last known forms of this class, the proetides, in fact, became extinct only during the Permian (about 250 million years ago ).
