Keichousaurus is a genus of marine reptiles of the family of Pachypleurosauridae which was extinguished at the end of the Triassic. The name derives from Kweichow (now Guizhou Province), China, where the first fossil specimen was discovered in 1957. They are among the most common fossil Sauropterygia Euryapsida recovered and are often in complete skeletons and in good condition, making them popular with collectors. The family to which the Keichousaurus is sometimes classified as Nothosauria, but it now tends to separate them in a more primitive part.
Keichousaurus is highly specialized to the aquatic environment. The species of this kind came up to 30 cm long, with long neck and tail and zampea five fingers. The tapered head and teeth indicate that they were piscivorous, while the ulna development suggests that could also move on land or in marshes. Fossil remains of Keichousaurus hui during pregnancy show that the basin had a mobile and so it was probably ovoviviparous.
