Dear Pre-Licensed MFT's
By Jackie Kurta and Kathleen Barry
Both of us remember quite well the journey that we each experienced to becoming licensed MFT's. We agree that it is a road mired with frustration, excitement, anxiety and gratification. What we can reflect upon now that we have become licensed is that there are many critical pieces to becoming a confident and competent psychotherapist: finding the correct academic setting, developing relationships with clients, interfacing with other trainees and interns, as well as settling into the educational experiences of individual and group supervision with licensed mental health clinicians.
In our efforts to support you on your journey, we've created this guidebook. While the journey may be daunting at times, we are hopeful that this guidebook will alleviate some of your stress by offering tips, cautions, alerts, must-haves and must-dos. We want to thank Nicole Zapata, our SB-CAMFT Board Pre-licensed Representative, for updating and revitalizing this handbook. Our hope is that this guidebook satisfies your pre-licensure questions and contributes to a sense of well- being on this rewarding passage to licensure.
"Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out."
