Shells
First of all, our shells are.... only shells, that is without molluscs which have produced them. They come from several seas and oceans, particularly from Pacific, except obviously Pulmonata that are mainland animals. So in the cataloge you'll find whether Gastropoda (cypraee, murices, cones…), that is the kind of Mollusca whose shell is constituted from an only part with an opening from which the animal goes out, or Bivalvia (pectines, cockles, hen clams ...) therefore called because their shell is subdivided in two parts called exactly "valves"; but we have also Scaphopoda, tusk of elephant shaped, and the Cephalopoda with external shell (excluded therefore small cuttlefishes, octopuses and calamaries!), like the famous Nautilus (not the submarine…).
Like for every category, our catalogues are subject to frequent revision, so you often come back to visit us if you are searching for novelties. Moreover, if you are to hunting of some species absent from the catalogue, or finished, you may have it for the asking: we'll do everything possible to find them!
And now… good fishing!
Guide to the consultation of the catalogue
As for the other zoological catalogues, also the specimen in the Shells Catalogue have been subdivided into great and small systematic categories to make easier the consultation. For example the class of Gasteropoda is divided into families (Tonnidae, Neritidae).
The NEW symbol near the scientific name (genus-species) of the animal, shows, if it's present, for a brief period all the new shells of the catalogue. The following green text indicates the main systematic category; this can be divided into subcategories (orange and yellow). For example: the shell Cypraea argus has included in the class "Gastropoda" (green text), in particular in the family "Cypraeidae" (orange text). The articles are listed in alphabetical order.
After the photo (if present), it follows a brief description of the shell to give you an idea of the aspect and of the dimension; if it isn't complete, you can find it in detail opening the article-card of the specimen that you're examining. Finally you'll find the price in Euro and Dollar and the possibility to read the article-card: clicking on it, appears a pop-up with a bigger photo of the shell and further informations useful to the purchase, like a more detailed description, the origin, that indicates the zoogeographic region where the mollusc lives, except for more specific indications, the availability of the relating shell (it could be temporarily finished), its code number, and at last the eventuality special price of the specimen (give you a look at our Offers Catalogue).
The symbol A- means that the specimen have some slight faults, while A2 means that the imperfections are more accentuated.
The indicated measures can not to correspond, being one medium, sometimes approximate, between adult animals that during their lifetime can not to reach the maximum dimensions. If the real measure of the available animal is much lacking from indicated measure in the catalogue, to the action of a your eventual order we will communicate you the measure at the moment available.
All the shells, excluded little specific cases, have been cleaned up in HCI (hydrochloric acid) and therefore lacking in deposit and incrustations of CaCO3 (calcium carbonate). Except where indicated, Gastropoda are without operculum, Bivalve are complete (that is with the two valves).
For your orders, you can click on keep shopping without fear: the ultimate purchase will take place successively, after our confirmation of its real availability (anyhow we exhort you to read the terms of sale).
