Insects

In our case more it would be corrected to speak than Arthropods, because in this category we have inserted also animals like spiders and scorpions.

We do not sell more than several years insects and other invertebrates living for farming, so all samples we treat are dead and dried. Therefore, except Vertebrata, that we sell already stuffed, Insects and other Arthropoda we supply them to you dried in coverings or papered in small envelopes.

As far as the prices of Insect Catalogue, these are reported to the specimen NOT mounted with wings and legs open in a symmetrical position, as they appear in the photos, which are purely illustrative. This is because the Arthropods, already mounted, are very fragile and easily broken during consigment. Need only think of a butterfly, suspended only for the pin with wings open!

For those who don't know technical preparation(not born expert entomologists!), it's available (section Articles and Columns, in homepage on left side) a short guide for entomological preparation (in Italian language, sorry!), free download,  as to execute from himself the mounting and the sitting of Arthropods.

After preparation, you can set the animals in various containers of your choice (entomological boxes, boxes of cellophane or plexiglas, frames, diorama, etc.), and for these articles we send back you to our Equipment Catalogue.
Like for every category, our catalogues are subject to frequent revision, therefore you often come back to visit us if you are searching for novelties. Moreover, if you are to hunting of some species absent from the catalogue, or finished, not hesitate to ask it to us: we'll do everything possible to find them!
And now.... good hunting!

Guide to the consultation of the catalogue

As for the other zoological catalogues, all specimen of the Insect Catalogue have been subdivided into great and small systematic categories to make easier the consultation. For example the order of the Coleopters is divided into families (Scarabaeidae, Buprestidae) and, where is necessary, into subfamilies (Dynastinae, Cetoniinae).
The NEW symbol near the scientific name (genus-species) of the animal, shows, if it's present, for a brief period all the new animals of the catalogue. The following green text indicates the main systematic category; this can be divided into subcategories (orange and yellow). For example: the scarab Fornasinius russus has included in order "Coleoptera" (green text), in particular in the family "Scarabaeidae" (orange text) and precisely in the subfamily "Cetoniinae" (yellow text). The articles are listed in alphabetical order.
After the photo, it follows a brief description of the animal to give you an idea of the aspect and dimensions; if it isn't complete, you can find it in detail opening the article-card of the specimen that you're examining. Finally you'll find the price in Dollar (which may or may not be on offer, so look at our Catalog Offers).

For other information, click on Read More: you enter in a new page with one or more bigger photos (zoomable) of the animal and further news useful to the purchase, like a more detailed description, the specific code number of the article, the possible availability (the specimen may be temporarily out of stock or reserved) the sex, when it has been possible distinguish it, with the following symbols: M = male, F = female, M+F = specimen only sold in couples (pair). If the cell is empty or with the symbol M / F, it means that the sex has not been identified or is not possible do it and the availability of one or the other sex is accidental. The origin indicates the place where the animal has been captured (therefore not the area where it lives that can be larger). In case of purchase, if available, it will come supplied also the date of the capture.

The symbol A- means that the specimen has a slight fault, while A2 means that the imperfections are more accentuated. Than they're indicated the availability of the relating animal (it could be temporarily finished or reserved), its code number, and at last the eventuality special price of the specimen (give you a look at our Offers Catalogue).
For all the Arthropods, the measures are from the apex of the head to that one of the abdomen, excluded the antennas or other appendices, if not where expressly indicated or when for convention they are comprised, like for example the jaws of the Lucanidae or the horns of the Dynastinae. Any long legs stretched forward, wings projecting beyond the abdomen, ovipositor, and so, are not included in measurements. For spiders the measure indicates the leg span: from the apex of the hind leg to the apex of the fore opposite leg. The symbol w.s. (locusts, imenopters) means wing span. For the butterflies we preferred to report the precise length of a single wing because the wing span is highly variable depending on how it can be prepared and other anatomical factors of the animal. However the indicated measures can always not to correspond, being one medium, sometimes approximate, between adult animals that during their lifetime can not to reach the maximum dimensions. If the real measure of the available animal are much lacking from indicated measure in the catalogue, to the action of a your eventual order we will communicate you the measure at the moment available.
For your orders, you can click on "buy" without fear: the ultimate purchase will take place successively, after our confirmation of its real availability (anyhow we exhort you to read the terms of sale). If you search for a precise article, let's use our internal search engine that we have added for you!

We remember you a last time that the specimen are supplied papered, NOT prepared to put in a frame.
